Regulatory notice

Matthew C. Sharp Legal Services provides legal consultancy, advisory and dispute resolution services on an unregulated basis. Matthew C. Sharp Legal Services is not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and does not undertake reserved legal activities requiring authorisation under the Legal Services Act 2007. Our services are principally concerned with non-reserved legal activities, legal consultancy, dispute resolution, agribusiness and rural matters, business and commercial advisory work, and related regulatory and compliance matters.

Clients should be aware that, as an unregulated provider, the regulatory protections that apply to an SRA-authorised firm do not apply to Matthew C. Sharp Legal Services. Professional indemnity insurance is held voluntarily in respect of the services provided, and details of the cover can be made available upon reasonable request. Nothing on this website or in our correspondence should be interpreted as representing that Matthew C. Sharp Legal Services is authorised or regulated by the SRA or any other legal services regulator.

Terms of business

These Terms of Business apply to all services provided by Matthew C. Sharp Legal Services unless otherwise agreed in writing. Before work commences, the scope of the services to be provided, the basis of charging and any applicable estimate or quotation will be agreed with the client. Our services are provided on an unregulated basis and may include legal consultancy, legal research, document preparation, contract and business advisory work, dispute resolution, negotiation, agribusiness and rural consultancy, and regulatory and compliance advice.

We will act with reasonable skill and care and will keep clients reasonably informed of progress. Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, we do not undertake reserved legal activities, hold client money, conduct litigation or provide services requiring authorisation by the SRA or another approved regulator.

Fees will be charged on the basis agreed with the client and are payable within the period specified on the invoice. Clients remain responsible for any third-party costs or expenses incurred with their authority.

All information supplied by clients will be treated as confidential, subject to applicable law and any circumstances in which disclosure is legally required or permitted. Clients should notify us promptly of any concerns regarding our services so that we have an opportunity to investigate and resolve them. A copy of our complaints procedure is available on request. Either party may terminate the engagement in writing, subject to payment of fees and expenses properly incurred up to the date of termination.

These Terms of Business, together with any written engagement or quotation issued for a particular matter, constitute the basis upon which our services are provided. Matthew C. Sharp Legal Services reserves the right to amend these terms from time to time, with any changes notified to clients where they materially affect an ongoing engagement.
